Islam & The Environment – Talk 1 of 2

Islam & The Environment - Talk 1 of 2
Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri

This talk explores how human beings as students of unity need the challenges of the environment and ecology as outer reminders of the need for inner awareness and caution.

Shaykh Fadhlalla talks about the challenges that face human beings: global warming, destruction of biodiversity, population increase from an Islamic perspective. He covers responsibilities, duties and rights, individually, collectively and culturally as well as legislation and populist movements and:

- Conservation
- Modern population increases
- Carbon footprint
- Global warming

He discusses our responsibilities and duties from a Qur'anic perspective.

Shaykh Fadhlalla reminds us that the foundation of reality is unity and of the need for individual enlightenment.

The element of water and the meaning of the Arabic word, essence, origin, identity is explored. Water as the origin of life. We are reminded about the natural destructive cycles of cultures when they become frivolous, greedy and forgetful of that unity.
